It's coming out on March 23rd!
But I have to admit that the media hype surrounding it is really putting me off. Especially because the movie is being compared to twilight *gag*. Just to clarify my minions, the Hunger Games is not about a steamy love triangle but about tyranny, revolution, courage, growing up, poverty, hunger, class conflict, sacrifice and yes, love.
I will also admit to the fact that the books are a little childishly written but that's purely because they are meant for pre-teens. Now before you poke fun at me for reading a book from the pre-teen section of the bookstore, you should consider the story line. It's about a 16 year old girl called Katniss Everdeen partaking in the hunger games which is an annual televised event that features combatants that the capitol randomly selects. One boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 are taken from each of the twelve districts to be put in a game of survival where they are forced to fight one another to the death.
I definitely recommend the books because the plot is just brilliant, the characters are strong and it's altogether suspenseful, imaginative and pretty morbid. Lovely combination indeedy. Now get out there and buy the books before the movie comes out, because we all know how the movie can never compare to the books they're based on!
