The Big Bang is the theory about the creation of the universe. This idea holds that some cataclysmic event caused all energy and space to be formed at once. Energy and space was fine, but no matter could exist because after such an explosion, the universe was still too hot. Over the course of time, the universe began to cool enough so that neutrons and electrons could attach to each other and form atoms which then became matter.
Matter eventually would become planets which then eventually became atmospheres and then came the plants and then the dinosaurs and then mammals and then people and then Baywatch or rather, the invention of the Television. Thank you Philo T. Farnsworth!
And with this human invention, we are able to detect the residual radiation left over from the Big Bangity Bang.
Is it just me, or is this fact generally fascinating to everyone?
Well lookie here, with a click of a button I can see residual radiation from when the universe was created!
For all you curious people, this is due to the fact that along with the particles of atoms formed in the Big Bangity Bang, particles of light were also formed. These photons, still hot from the Big Bang, could never fully interact with the atoms and are still cooling down now. This residual heat is still present today and because television can pick up stray electromagnetic waves, a TV set can show the universe’s residual radiation as background radiation which is static.
Now that is cool.
Don’t get me wrong. I knew TV’s and radio’s picked up on background radiation but I had no idea what radiation it was linked to. Ahh, how I miss physics.
In other news, I have officially viewed the entire 7 seasons of Gilmore Girls. I’ll be in mourning for a while now, thanks.
Rory Gilmore: You were on the phone?
Richard Gilmore: Yes, long distance.
Lorelai Gilmore :God?
Richard Gilmore: London.
Lorelai Gilmore : God lives in London?
Richard Gilmore: My mother lives in London.
Lorelai Gilmore: Your mother is God?
Richard Gilmore: Lorelai…
Lorelai Gilmore: So, God is a woman.
Richard Gilmore: Lorelai.
Lorelai Gilmore: And a relative. That’s so cool. I’m gonna totally ask for favors.
Richard Gilmore: Make her stop.
Rory Gilmore: Oh, that I could.
